Chancellor Austin A. Lane invites you to join your fellow SIU alumni, students, friends, and university representatives for the 3rd Annual Saluki Takeover Tour Southern Illinois. This is your chance to reconnect, network, and celebrate all things SIU at some of the best spots across the region.

Whether you’re a proud alum, a current student, or simply a fan of the Salukis, don’t miss this opportunity to be part of the excitement! Mark your calendar and register for one—or all—of these unforgettable stops.


Tuesday, March 31: Makanda

Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center
206 Touch of Nature Rd, Makanda, IL 62958
Chancellor’s Reception: 5 to 7 p.m.

Chancellor’s remarks: 5:30 p.m.
Tours and activities begin: 6 p.m.

The tour opens at Touch of Nature Outdoor Education Center, a longtime hub for outdoor adventure, education and community programming at SIU. Guests will explore the campus through guided tours highlighting recent improvements to Shawnee Lodge, Morris Lodge and Little Grassy Lodge — upgrades made possible through student fees and university investment.

The evening will also feature demonstrations and opportunities to participate in several signature Touch of Nature activities, including the climbing wall, archery, the giant swing and the pamper pole. These programs highlight important partnerships with organizations such as Egyptian Electric Cooperative, SI Credit Union and E.T. Simonds Construction.

Guests will enjoy casual outdoor fare, including grilled hamburgers and hot dogs with vegetarian options available, along with a full bar.

Tuesday, April 7: Lake of Egypt Area

Chancellor’s Reception: 6 to 8 p.m.

The Saluki Takeover Tour continues near the scenic Lake of Egypt with an evening at Pyramid Acres Marina. Alumni and friends will gather along the waterfront to reconnect, network and celebrate their Saluki pride.

Food will be provided by Wiffle Boys Pizza of Goreville, with beer and wine available for guests.

Thursday, April 16: Carmi

Location to be announced.

Chancellor’s Reception: 6 to 8 p.m.

The tour stops in Carmi for an evening of conversation and connection with SIU alumni and friends from across White County and the surrounding region. Additional venue details will be announced soon.


Tuesday, April 21: Carterville

The Historic 131 Building
131 S. Division Street, Carterville, IL 62918
Chancellor’s Reception: 6 to 8 p.m.

Guests will gather at the Historic 131 Building (formerly Montgomery's Place) in downtown Carterville for an evening of Saluki pride and community. Beer and wine will be served alongside appetizers prepared by 618 Tap House.

Thursday, April 23: Red Bud

Chancellor’s Reception: 6 to 8 p.m.

The 2026 Saluki Takeover Tour concludes in Red Bud at 1860 Public House. Guests will gather upstairs in the banquet room of the historic downtown building for an evening of conversation, connection and celebration with fellow Salukis. Beer, wine and appetizers will be provided.
