Former SIU assistant women’s basketball coach Kat Martin joined the SIU Foundation as director of development for Saluki Athletics on March 6, 2024. In her role, Martin generates external support for the athletic department, including advancing the Salukis Unleashed fundraising campaign.
In conjunction with the Imagine SIU 2030 strategic plan, Salukis Unleashed will enhance the athletics experience for student-athletes, coaches, and fans. With a goal of enhancing Saluki Athletics’ revenue by $100 million over 10 years, it is part of the university-wide Imagine SIU 2030 fundraising campaign.
Martin comes to SIU after spending the past four years on the development team at Westminster Academy in St. Louis, where she also served as the head girls basketball coach, compiling a 73-20 record. Before Westminster, she was women’s basketball coach at Saint Louis University and the University of Missouri - Kansas City. From 2013-17 she was the recruiting coordinator for Saluki Women’s Basketball where she was influential in signing Kylie Giebelhausen and the 2021 MVC regular season women’s basketball championship senior class.
An Ontario, Canada, native, Martin began her career at Kishwaukee College, before becoming the recruiting coordinator for women’s basketball at SIU.
Martin earned a Master of Science in sports administration from Northern Illinois University, and a bachelor’s degree in sport and wellness from Trinity International, where she was also a member of the women’s basketball team.
